The Guardian reported that Roberto De Zerbi tore into Tottenham after their 3-2 home defeat by Aston Villa, saying the team could not “lose the game in this way.” The loss sent Spurs into the three-week international break without a Premier League win and on two points.
De Zerbi said he was “very disappointed, sad and frustrated” and criticised both his players’ mentality and their physical condition. He also said substitute Mohammed Kudus had disrupted the balance of the team, and added that he had warned his attackers during the second half to stay calm.
The report also said Aston Villa’s first Premier League win of the season was a reminder of the resilience Unai Emery wants from his side. Emery said his players believed, defended with commitment and showed the competitive edge Villa needed.
