RB Leipzig confirmed on 1 September that Marc Guiu had joined from Chelsea and signed until 2031. The club assigned the Spanish striker the number nine shirt. This completed announcement updates Get German Football News’ August report that the clubs had reached agreement on a permanent transfer.
The earlier report placed the expected base fee below €20m and said Chelsea were expected to retain a sell-on clause. Leipzig’s announcement does not supply those financial details, so they remain reported expectations. It records 29 Chelsea appearances and eight goals across two seasons; those club totals should not be confused with a single-season figure covering a loan elsewhere.
Almost Signed analysis: this is a different development arrangement from Guiu’s Sunderland spell. The August report says Chelsea recalled him after only three appearances there; Leipzig now hold a signed contract running to 2031. The practical distinction is which club plans his future over subsequent seasons: this move puts that horizon at Leipzig, rather than leaving a temporary host waiting for Chelsea’s next decision. That change does not guarantee a starting place.
The original recruitment context remains dated to August. Get German Football News described Rômulo’s knee issue, Tidiam Gomis leading the line in the cup and Christopher Nkunku’s ability to play centrally. Those were the circumstances around the proposed signing, not an October injury list or evidence that Leipzig promised Guiu priority over the other forwards.
