Nottingham Forest signed Ousmane Diomande from Sporting in August. Sky Sports reported a fixed transfer fee of about £34.3m (€40m) and a four-year contract. BBC Sport separately described a four-year agreement with Forest holding an option for a further year. These completed-deal accounts replace the earlier medical-pending framing.
Before completion, GOAL’s report, relaying The Athletic, had described an expected five-year contract. It also said Diomande was due to travel for his medical. The later reports therefore describe a different stage of the transaction and give more detail about the term that was actually signed.
Almost Signed analysis: four years plus an option should not be treated as five unconditional years. The BBC’s additional detail explains how the earlier five-year headline and the final four-year description can refer to a similar maximum horizon while carrying different certainty: the fifth season depends on an option being exercised. The source does not disclose the option’s conditions, so this is a distinction between guaranteed and possible duration, not an assertion about Forest’s future decision.
The sporting context remains separately attributed. Sky and the BBC say Oliver Glasner had wanted the defender at Crystal Palace and record 132 Sporting appearances. That supports the experience behind Forest’s recruitment, but it does not establish a guaranteed starting role or an automatic fit in a particular defensive combination.
What remains unconfirmed
- The cited reports do not disclose the conditions governing Forest’s optional fifth year.
Corrections
- Source check, 13 October 2026: BBC says Diomande signed for four years with an option for a further year. BBC and Sky both report completion and a four-year term; Sky specifies the fixed fee. BBC provides completed four-year plus option terms; Sky explicitly provides fixed fee; older GOAL stories were at premedical stage. BBC and Sky establish completion and contract terms. Source count and financial wording in the old ancillary copy are stale.
