Football Italia described the proposed Schalke deal as a free loan with a €5m purchase option plus add-ons, which could turn into an obligation under certain conditions. Napoli later confirmed a loan to Red Bull Salzburg with an option to make the move permanent. The Salzburg release does not give a price or describe an obligation trigger.
Almost Signed analysis: the common “loan with option” label hides an important limit on comparison. The reported Schalke proposal contained a possible compulsory-purchase stage; the official Salzburg announcement establishes only an option. The former deal’s €5m figure and conditional obligation therefore cannot be reused as terms of the latter. The player and parent club stayed the same, but the counterparty and the agreement changed.
That comparison also leaves the legal issue in its proper place. A later sporting destination does not establish whether Napoli acted on its reserved rights against Schalke, or whether the earlier dispute was settled. This dated account records the failed route and the confirmed alternative without treating one contract as an extension of the other.
