The Standard reported that Mikel Arteta said Jurrien Timber has not suffered an injury setback after Arsenal left him out of the squad for the Carabao Cup trip to Ipswich. The manager said the club chose not to take risks with the defender’s fitness.
Timber had come on at half-time against Sunderland for his first appearance since an earlier substitute outing in the Champions League final. Arteta said Timber had already played more than Arsenal wanted after his return, adding that the player had logged 53 minutes after five months out.
Ben White’s groin issue had already reduced Arsenal’s options at right-back, but Timber’s omission was still framed as a load-management call. The report also said Piero Hincapie and Cristian Mosquera were left out, while other senior players were rested or kept on the bench.
