Josip Šutalo has joined Lazio on loan from Ajax. Both clubs announced the move on 22 August, with Ajax confirming that the arrangement lasts until 30 June 2027 and gives Lazio an option to make the transfer permanent.
Football Italia reports a €3 million loan fee and a separate €7.5 million purchase option. The club announcements confirm the option but do not disclose these amounts. The option price is a possible later payment, rather than a completed permanent-transfer fee.
Ajax say the Croatia defender remains contracted to them until 30 June 2028. He arrived from Dinamo Zagreb in summer 2023 and made his Ajax debut against Fortuna Sittard that September, going on to play 108 first-team matches before the loan.
The 26-year-old was named in the Eredivisie team of the season for 2024–25, according to Football Italia. He joins Lazio’s defensive recruitment for the new season after the club also brought in Danilho Doekhi and Alfonso Pedraza. The outlet credits him with 76 Eredivisie appearances during his three seasons in Amsterdam and 37 senior international caps for Croatia at the time of the announcement.
