Chelsea have announced an agreement to bring Honest Ahanor from Atalanta to the club in 2027. The announcement changes the status of a transfer first reported here as preliminary talks: the clubs have reached an agreement, but Chelsea specify a future joining date for the defender.
Ahanor was 18 when the agreement was announced. Chelsea say he made 35 appearances during his first season at Atalanta, having moved to Bergamo from Genoa in July 2025. His performances also earned him his first two senior appearances for Italy in June 2026.
Football Italia reported on 1 September that Sky Sport Italia put the package at €48 million including add-ons. Chelsea’s statement does not give a fee. The €34 million figure in the earlier reporting concerned a rejected Brighton bid, rather than an agreed Chelsea payment to Atalanta.
The earlier Football Italia report described Ahanor as capable of playing at left wing-back or on the left of a three-man defence. His first season at Atalanta also brought one goal across his 35 appearances, according to the outlet’s subsequent report on the Chelsea agreement.
